IJsselmarkt as Gouda's cosiest flea market for twenty years a household name

Every year on Whit Monday, Gouda's cosiest flea market is held, the IJsselmarkt and Josephmarkt! The flea market started as a joke in 2002 and is bustling with hundreds of visitors every year. Visitors are attracted by the cosy atmosphere, sales of old and new stuff, homemade creations and delicacies. Everyone is welcome on Monday 29 May from 8am to 4pm.

Founder Kri-Janda van der Loo looks back on 20 years of a successful free market. "It is a highlight of the year for many street residents and we have really put us as IJssellaan on the map. Many Gouda residents know it as a cosy street where there is a lot of contact with neighbours. It's nice to see that the free market is really supported by the whole street and everyone gets cheerful when the time comes again."

Due to corona, the editions in 2020 and 2021 could of course not take place, so last year's return of the market was met with extra enthusiasm. "Unfortunately, we had to stop it earlier then because of the rain, but for this year we have already booked a sunshine event. We are looking forward to another successful edition with lots of happy faces," said Kri-Janda.

Children are not forgotten at the IJsselmarkt and Josephmarkt either. With the success of various children's activities every year and the annual hover carousel as the highlight. So on Whit Monday, come to IJssellaan for the IJsselmarkt and Sint Josephstraat for the Josephmarkt and see for yourself.

The market is organised by volunteers and made possible annually by GoudApot. Proud sponsor of Gouda initiatives.
