PLATE PAINTING: A LIVING CRAFT

Ambachtelijk plateel is the studio of Trudy Otterspeer. Founded in 2007 and based in the historic centre of Gouda, the Netherlands, since December 2012. Here she brings a centuries-old craft back into the spotlight: plate painting. Unglazed earthenware is hand-painted with a decor or motif, glazed and then fired a second time. Well-known decoration lines are Delft blue and Gouda earthenware. Trudy Otterspeer received her professional training at Plateelbakkerij Zenith in Gouda. On her recommendation, 'Plateel painting in Gouda' was included in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Netherlands in 2014.

UNICA & SERICA
Each hand-painted piece is unique. It can be an occasional plate, an anniversary platter, a showpiece, but also tiles for the restoration of a tile tableau. Besides these one-offs, small series are also produced: souvenirs and seasonal items, such as Christmas decorations. All hand-painted, so distinctive. Also very suitable as business gifts.
