The Gouda Museum Harbour offers a berth to occupants of monumental commercial vessels that defined the image on the water in the early 1900s.
The aim is to preserve old Dutch ship types and the corresponding harbour atmosphere in the Gouda cityscape.
There are berths for 20 ships, the harbour's permanent residents. In addition, passers-by with a historical ship can get a temporary berth in the harbour. The harbour and the ships are well worth a visit. Information boards on the quay provide explanations. The ships are restored and maintained by the skippers' families themselves.
The skippers, the Friends of the Museum Harbour and volunteers meet regularly in the old skippers' waiting room, museum harbour café ’t IJsselhuis. This is next to the historic Mallegat lock, which leads from the low-lying inland water to the IJssel. Here, the IJssel is still a tidal river; very special this far inland.
In the Explore Gouda web app, you will find many fun routes, including one about the Museumhaven!
